Dear XXX,
I write to draw your attention to the parliamentary petition EN9283 that has collected more than 18500 signatures. The petition asks the Australian Government to end its recognition of the Islamic Republic regime as the representative state of the Iranian nation, to help end atrocities against Iranians, and to support Iran’s transition to democracy under HRH Crown Prince Pahlavi’s leadership.
On 13 January 2026, Minister Wong said the following words in a press conference, and repeated them in two statements on 12and 28 February 2026, referencing the massacre in Iran:
“A regime that relies on the repression and murder of its own people to retain power is without legitimacy.”
The petitioners ask is perfectly aligned Minister Wong’s statements. We simply ask that as the Minister in charge of the Department of Foreign Affairs, she instructs the Department to act on your rightful position.
As a member of the Parliamentary Committee of Foreign Affairs, please ask the Government to make swift and decisive actions consistent with the announced political position, i.e. to formally end the recognition of the regime in Iran as a government and to enter formal dialogue with Crown Prince Pahlavi as the transitional representative of the Iranian people.
Yours faithfully,
